There are different reasons. From an evolutionary point of view, humans grouped together and needed leaders. Since hunting was was the most in need of leading, and men were usually the hunters, men became the leaders. It took off from there. Leaders have the power to keep themselves leaders, and that's why males continued to be kings, emperors, and such. It isn't always like this, but it does explain the trends.
This also happens in other animals too.

How exactly do those issues affect women more than men? What a ridiculous assertion. There are more men in office because more men run for office and because voters of both genders typically feel that men are generally better at crunch time and in making hard decisions- right or wrong

Not to be off-topic but how do those things affect women more, especially war? I would think that affects men more
Not to mention, the days of Susan B Anthony pleading for equal rights has been washed over by Paris Hiltonites asking where her panties are.
The dream of equal representation was lost when the would-be female president found out she could get a horny guy to buy a Benz for her if she acted like a prostitute.

Men got a headstart of hundreds of years. Women couldn't even vote in this country until the 1920s, that's less than 80 years! WOW!

It goes back to the beginning of time when men were the hunters and women were the gatherers. Society still "trains" us to think like this, but there have been many changes made in recent years. Look at the toy industry. Boys get toy guns, and girls get Barbies to dress up. We are raised in a world where men are supposed to lead by protection, and women are supposed to take care of the home. While that is changing and becoming antiquated, it is still there.

Because a long time ago women were subservant to men. In this day and age there are still some countries and states (better dead than red) that seems to have this same mindset.

Why are there more women that are Nurses? Same reason, men and women are drawn to different professions, not to say that some men aren't nurses and some women aren't in politics.

Cause the men would rather surround themselves with like-minded individuals.
We know how some men can be pig-headed.
