i was speaking with a neighbor who was against gay marriage, he basically told me cause the bible says its wrong. he wouldn't explain it any further. well to those who believe its wrong, please answer my questions.

what makes the bible the supreme structure on which we should base our laws off? why not the tora or the koran or what other things like those exist? why not?

my friend also said that "god" gives a free will to everyone, if "god" does so why are people trying to take away the right from gays having the free will to marriage?

and last question, how is gay marriage such a threat that we should violate our own constitution (freedom of expression and religion) that we must establish such a law against gays and void one of the reasons this nation was established? isn't establishing this law a slap in the face to others who have other religions or none at all?

In my dream my daughter of 22 was dead and I was walking naked among my family and strangers. So I went to buy clothes to cover my nudity and I went downtown and I saw a very thin girl waiting for the bus and I tried to take her dress off to put it on me but I am fat and wouldn`t fit. I got into a store and bought a green blouse for 10 bucks but did`nt put it on right away instead I went back home and my mother`s sister told me: " you went shopping even though your daughter is dead?" and I said..well I am naked. people told me: " your daughter lived just a little time" and I answered : " yes, because she was very mean to me and her father". And before my daughter died I was cooking a very strange food and people asked me to finish cooking it and so I did. In my dream I wanted to cry but I couldn`t. I though: oh I will miss her for...and then only bad memories came to my mind. Help me to understand my dream please. Thanks

can somebody give me a basic explanation of a reflecting telescope and a refracting telescope please?

i think im right in saying a wider aperture gives a better telescope because it catches more light, is this correct?

however, does the length of a telescope make a difference?
and by extension of that question, will a longer focal length make a better telescope?

when i talk about better im talking about resolution and magnification. i understand what these words mean. so, what effect would it have on these 2 things if i was to increase the focal length of my telescope and why?

and does it work one way for a refractor and one way for a reflector? if so, then why?

This is the first year my 3 1/2 year old understands the idea of Santa and Christmas presents. It is really important to me to keep the wonder of Christmas going for her. The problem is , there is only one gift she has asked Santa for...Butterscotch Pony.
It runs about $250.00 and we just can't afford it. We have gently tried to nudge her toward other gifts but it's the only thing she seems to want.
How do you explain to a three year old that Santa can't afford a certain gift without tarnishing the magic?
I know Christmas shouldn't be just about the gifts, and in our house it's also celebrated as the birthday of Jesus with a cake and special readings from the bible. But we enjoy celebrating the Santa stuff too.

Do you think it is OK to call a teacher by his or first name. You are still going to school, but not at school at the moment. Example: IF you see a teacher, and you are like in 8th grade, and see them at a mall, do you think it is ok to address them by their first name or not.

my boyfriend has had numerous addiction issues in the past - specifically alcohol, painkillers and cocaine. he has been in a twelve-step program for over a year and has been successful. however, he woke up yesterday with severe neck pain and after several hours of unsuccessful rest / moist heat / ice, he took two percocets, given to him by a family member, not a doctor. Since it is only going to be a minimal dose (family member has vowed not to give more than 3 days worth) and since it's being used to treat pain, he feels that it is acceptable. I disagree and would like some outside advice.
