Admission is free to the Smithsonian Institution museums. Look on their website for full details.

The National Zoo in Washington DC is part of the Smithsonian, too. It is free but parking is not free. Join the Friends of the National Zoo and parking is free!

From the Smithsonian's Web site: "Admission is free for all Smithsonian museums and the zoo in Washington, D.C., and the American Indian Museum's George Gustav Heye Center in New York. Tickets are not used for general admission. A fee is required at the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum in New York (Members and children under age 12 are admitted free)."

IMAX movies and the planetarium shows do cost: Udvar-Hazy Center IMAX Theater, Lockheed Martin IMAX Theater and Einstein Planetarium (National Air & Space); Johnson IMAX Theater (Natural History).

They don't charge. It belongs to everyone.

Of course, they always accept a donation.
