Those wanting to help improve society should volunteer to mentor a migrant, it was suggested yesterday.

Mentors could teach newly-arrived immigrants to speak English and to apply for jobs, according to the report of a review ordered by Gordon Brown.

They could help individuals and familes adjust to the subtleties of life in Britain and show them around their new neighbourhoods.

Those mentors looking for a "more socially focused" relationship could offer migrants a warm welcome in the form of "a great big smile and a great big hug".

The plan for volunteers to spend an hour or more each week helping immigrants get used to their new country was published by former Attorney General Lord Goldsmith, who is running the Prime Minister's Citizenship Review.

I just want to know what others think on this certain line of thought, that somebody on here has posted repeatedly. Who will remain nameless, because the purpose of this question is not mud-slinging, but real opinions on this thought process.

Somebody has posted....
"God is defined as omnipotent and omniscient. If God is omniscient, he knows what he will do in the future. That means he can't change his mind and is therefore not omnipotent. Therefore the god of the bible cannot exist."

Now, my point is this. What is omniscience? It is knowing absolutely everything there is to know, past, present and future. Perfect knowledge, right? So, if a being was omniscient, then he would never be in a situation where he had to change his mind, because that would mean he didn't have perfect knowledge about it to begin with.

Again, this is not necessarily about the God of the bible, but any omnipotent, omniscient being.

What are your thoughts on this? Thanks.

One of my cats went missing 18 months ago. She's just turned up!!

My husband was complaining saying some cat was trying to get in the house. When i had a look it was ours! Can't believe she's come back after all this time. She just walked in as though she's never been away - although she was a bit miffed when she realised her bed had gone from her normal spot!!
Very strange.

Yes, I understand most people wont look at their German Shepards as itty bitty babies...but as I was watching the Dog Whisperer, I find he tries to make the owners look dumb for loving their dog in a child-like fashion. I think most mature adults know their dog is not a human baby, but I really dont see anything wrong with dressing a dog up, or picking him up and giving him kisses. All of which Cesar Millan frowns upon. Its almost like he wants you to treat your dog like a roommate. Whats the fun in that? I think SOME people do get dogs for help with an emotional void. Why not shower the dog with affection? Even if it IS in a doggy stroller? lol Just a thought for today.

I am 23 years old, helthy and so isnt my partner. I had blood work done to check for down syndrome and everything came back fine. I have been for 3 level 2 ultra sounds now and they advised me to have a amniosintesis. I had that done yesterday, I am terrified to find out the results. I never thought of having any complications although it happens. They are ruling out if the baby has down syndrome or if its just premi. Any advice? What do u think my chances are? I dont know much about this stuff.

I recently left a job due to a move. My job involved sales, and I made a 5% commission on any print material I sold each month. I worked through Ocotber 17, 2007, and made $13,709.42 in print sales, which should be around $700.00 in commission. I had no contract with my employer-- nothing saying that I would or would not receive commission upon exit from the company. My former employer has now told me I won't be getting that commission. No reason why-- just an email from him, over a month later, saying that I'll get no further compensation from him, and good luck.

My question is this-- am I entitled to the money that I was told initially I'd get? I realize this is a long shot, and in the grand scheme of things, it's not a lot of money. But it seems that if you tell an employee 'This is what you'll earn', shouldn't it be paid?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

At first i could put up with it but now its really starting to upset me an frustrate me. Whenever my boyfriend says demeaning/nasty/downputting things or laughs in my face or down the phone at me when we are arguing....he says stuff like "u aint been out with a black guy before u dont know how we get down...if u cant handle it go back to ur white boys" "kiss my black ***" "thats the way black guys are" etc. Amongst other pathetic things. Now this has only begun in the past month more recently. And please note we have been together for a year an his behaviour with this has become rlly awful! Im 19...hes 23. I would have expected more from a guy that age. An now its causin me to become distressed an hes like "whats the big deal" "why u gettin worked up" etc etc. It feels like im fighting a losing battle thou I really love him, Im not sure what happened to my boyfriend. What can I do to get it into his head that he can't treat/talk to me like this? Or am I being stupid?

I recently got into a terrible accident and now want to sell my car. How much would you pay for a totaled 1999 BMW 323i. The car is damaged in the front only, here are the things that were damged and things that work well:

Damaged:
1. Two Front lights (including signal light) (However the one light is in tact and not damaged at all, just need to be put back). Two Fog lights.
2.Front Bumper
3.The Hood
4.Right and Left Fendor
5. One Front Grill.

Things that are good:

1. Engine is not damaged and in good shape.
2. Tires are brand new and rims are good.
3. Suspensions are brand new.
4. All windows are 20% tinted, the back lights are also tinted.
5. No Damage in the interior at all and is clean.
6. No other damage (other than what i listed above) under the hood.

If i didnt have an accident i wud be able to sell the car for about 7 grand. Now that i had the accident, i just want to know around what price i cud get for it? Any1 have an estimate, let me know. Thanx

Excerpt from yahoo:

Iceland has overtaken Norway as the world's most desirable country to live in, according to an annual U.N. table published on Tuesday that again puts AIDS-afflicted sub-Saharan African states at the bottom.
Rich free-market countries dominate the top places, with Iceland, Norway, Australia, Canada and Ireland the first five but the United States slipping to 12th place from eighth last year in the U.N. Human Development Index.

But the index, blending 2005 figures for life expectancy, educational levels and real per capita income, finds that all 22 countries falling into its "low human development" category are in sub-Saharan Africa, with Sierra Leone last.

Yes, I can see how national health care is really awful- the first
five countries all have and seem to be doing quite well in every way...
