Many people do believe the campaign promises of Presidential candidates. I doubt that many of the candidates believe what they say. If you want to know what a candidate is actually going to do when he or she enters office just find out who their major campaign donors were. Whatever those donors want the most will be the top priority of the elected official.

Politicians in general, both parties, have nothing but contempt for the American people. If they had any respect for the people they would attempt to make their lies at least plausible. Their only concern is maintaining power. To maintain power they are forced to lie, cheat, and steal.
That's right, STEAL ! When you pay back political favors using taxpayers money that's stealing in my book.
Most candidates, at a presidential level, know that 45% of the voters will vote for them no matter what. They know that 45% will vote for their opponent, no matter what. So all the lies, the speaches, the promisses, the BS,are all for the benefit of grabbing away the larger share of that 10% that are undecided.

Yes, to both questions. They have over the past 40 years convinced themselves that they are actually more intelligent than the voters and unfortunately it seems a majority of voters believe them.

Go back over the past 3 or 4 administrations and review what their campaign promises where. I am sure you will find
most if not all of what was promised never happened.

No and no. But they think we're too lazy to do anything about it, and too stupid to sift the wheat from the chaff. They think people will believe enough of it, if they float something that will appeal to their most selfish interests.

That is why campaigns have turned into a mud slinging contest. They know better than to promise things anymore, they have figured out that we know one person can't accomplish anything by themselves.

They know that you 'can fool some of the people some of the time' and they hope they fool more people than the competition on election day.
