A long time ago, when my father was still in his 20s, he used to work aboard a ship. During that time, the sailors will help to cut each other's hair. My father had one crewmate who wanted to cut his hair but leave his fringe covering his forehead. According to Chinese superstition, the forehead is one of the energy portals and covering it will result in bad luck.
Despite the unusual request, my father did the haircut as he was told. Late at night, there were screams coming up from the deck. My father rushed up to the deck and to his horror, the crewmate's head was split open by a rope!!! He accidentally stepped the brain with his slippers in all the commotion ...the other crewmates told him to throw his slipper to the sea to prevent any bad luck...
After the death, two weird events happened. The next few nights my father had dreams of the dead crewmate visiting him and asking him to find an "ang moh" which means Caucasian in Hokkien. Their superior was a Caucasian by the way. My father never did go look him up, but he checked the birthday of both guys and coincidentally they were a day apart from each other!!! And the crewmate died exactly at midnight!!! What has this mysterious link between this two guys? Looks like we’ll never know… Also, my father had re-checked the ship’s book record and found out that he had recorded everyone’s boarding time, but had forgotten for that of the dead crewmate!!!
