JUST FRIENDS
Many of our friends automatically
assumed we were lovers,
and often I sensed their
unjustified envy.
So obvious were the
bonds of intimacy we shared that even
strangers assumed the same.
And before the public
we received the smiles that
were reserved for lovers.
And we were afforded
understanding nods of encouragement or,
at the least, approval.
If the truth were made known -
Yes, we had copulated a thousand times.
Through the mind and the emotions the rapport
we shared was an esthetic, creative and
purely kindred experience that challenged
all of the conceptions
formulated by those
who could not comprehend
what we shared together.
If the truth were made known -
We had never made love
because we were just friends.
And because we were friends
we were always in love.
Rest in peace, my sweet friend.
(Unique friendships are precious. Treasure them while you can, my friends.)
