My father had been sick with Alzheimer's and passed away earlier this year. He had purchased several savings bonds, every month for about 10 years, and made me the "second payee" on them, in the event of his death. I know he kept a very detailed log of the bonds (and they were paper, not electronic) he received...but I couldn't find it anywhere when we cleaned his house out. At that time, he was dealing with a woman who was clearly taking advantage of him.....end in the end, she took him for $20K before we even knew what happened. I'm interested in finding the bonds, if there still are any. I had POA from the time dad got sick until he passed. I was the beneficiary on a lot of his insurance accounts, and I have TONS of documentation.
Where do I go and who do I talk to find out if there are bonds that haven't been cashed, and what I can do to make them payable to me?
