was flashing would not go off. i diconnected the battery for a reset [10 mins ] ..no help ....went to auto zone .they said battery was good .....,their lil check out machine could not determine if the alternator was working or not . it would not register .

the fuse box next to the battery seems to be a ***** to get to open

The most common thing that does that is a bad ground connection between the engine and the chassis.

Don't know your model but that sounds a bit like a Mitsubishi 4wd I once had. Auto electrician found the problem on the fourth try! (4 different a/e's) It was wiring that was rubbing and being cut by some jagged metal behind the dashboard causing a short out.

Symptoms I had ... cruise wouldn't stay on, speedo flickered up and down, then one night - headlight switch turned indicators on, windows drove the windshield wipers, brake lights flashed like indicators! AC didn't work but the switch made the horn go off! If it wasn't so annoying it would have been very funny!

try advance..if alternator is reading 0...could b a sign
