You don't. That old thing used freon, which would cost a fortune now if you could find it. You need to get the leak fixed and convert it to R134. You need a pair of AC gauges and the knowledge of how to use them to get the charge right.

if you don't have any experience with a/c systems, take it to a shop. watch them. it's simple to do yourself after you know where to go.
