Any tips on how to clean the coloured gravel in my tropical fish tank? When I clean it out the tank, I remove everything, but by the time I get to the gravel I'm exhausted!!!

Hi, i am in need of some fresh and different ideas to finish my garden. I hope you can understand my explanation of what i have done so far...My garden is 26ft x 19ft, From the back door there is a semi-circle which is 11ft wide x 6ft, then surrounding that is a larger semi-circle which is 19ft wide x 10ft. Both semi-circles are edged in charcoal pavers and filled with plum slate (20mm in small, 40mm in large). At the bottom end there is a shed and kids play area which covers 19ft wide x 7ft. The problem is the middle area, about 19ft x 9ft. I don't want a lawn, i want something interesting and different with a dark feeling, i'm using mostly white flowering plants. Also it needs to be quite cheap and fairly easy. In the play area i've got bark but the dog keeps eating it. The soil is clay, very hard to dig. Please help i've had 8 weeks of thinking due to broken foot and all i come up with is a headache. Thanks in advance. Any ideas welcome.

I feel that I recently made a huge mistake, in something that happened...

I was talking to a friend, a few days ago, and we were simply joking around. He said, "you know, you can be really mean sometimes!," saying it as a joke.

I said, "Yes, but you love me anyway," and he responded differently than I expected--"You know, it's funny you mention that. I really love you." I thought he was simply kidding, as we'd been doing all afternoon, and though I DO love him, I didn't say it back; I just laughed.

Despite the fact that I love him, since I didn't say it back, he said he felt "stupid, and uncomfortable." Now, I feel like dirt.

I sent him a letter, saying that I do love him, and explained everything--but still, I feel so low, because he seemed so hurt by it.

Anything you know of, that I can do??

As a nation(America) who moved from compassionate conservatism to the new and “progressive” age of intolerance, why is it so many of my friends feel like society has cheated them when:

1. They don’t mean what they say, and they don’t say what they mean
2. They don’t start what they finish…like higher education for starters
3. They believe society OWES them something for doing NOTHING
4. They are obsessed with celebrities which are “famous for being famous”
5. Abortion is a form of birth-control
6. Ethics and morals apply to them when they are on the RECEIVING end, not
the other way around…
7. 50% believe a lottery ticket is a better investment than a 401(K)
8. 37% would plan to change their 2nd most expensive purchase they will ever
make(a car) based…are you ready?....a better CUP-HOLDER to hold that
128 oz Coke (hold the diabetes, please).
9. Winning at ALL costs…cheating is now a way to get what you deserve

We DO reap what we sow...even people who hate God.

I divided the mass of sodium carbonate (in grams) by the volume of an acidic solution (10 mL) to find the ratio. So would the label for the ratio be g/mL? I'm not sure, it just looks kind of weird to me.

I have been dating this girl who is overall pretty cool, but doesn't seem to show much regard for how I keep my living space. She likes to come over and cook for the two of us---which is great---but she never cleans up the mess, or even offers to help. She's also like that if she comes over and has a drink or snack with me. In fact, she'll usually just leave the empty (or half empty) glass or plate on the kitchen table or coffee table.

The other night, she came over and cooked dinner. After she finished, I commented on how we should probably clean everything up. She said we didn't need to. I then remarked on how I had noticed that she never cleaned up or even picked up after herself when she was over. She looked at me like I had suddenly grown another head and said, "But you're a GUY! Guys aren't supposed to care about that!"

I have pets and don't want to use any sprays. I've tried Terro in the past and the ants treated it like candy and swarmed on it. I have a very clean kitchen and this is driving me insane!

I am five months pregnant and currently in the process of moving in with the in-laws. My husband and I will only be living there temporarily to save money for my maternity leave. (As a state employee, I do not qualify for disability. I didn’t find this out until I was already pregnant. I am the main bread-winner, and therefore we rely heavily on my paycheck). We need to save about $10,000 before the baby is born and this was the only solution we could come up with.

My in-laws are awesome people, but I know there will be moments when I feel extremely uncomfortable (especially as I enter my third trimester). My husband and I have only been married 10 months, so I still don’t feel completely at ease with them. I don't know what is going to be expected of me and I don’t want to act like an ungrateful mooch.

How can we live with my in-laws over the next few months, but maintain a sense of independence? How can we ensure that the arrangement stay amicable? Any ideas?
