Well I can drive fast if I feel the need for it but what's the hurry. I am 73 but I am not concerned about my sight or reaction time as I just had my sight tested and it is good and I recently tested my reaction time on a machine and I registered just less than the time which is normal for most people. I know it works because a couple of weeks ago some young idiot pulled out of a side road right in front of me and I was able to avoid an accident.

Yea why do they!
I nearly got run over by two old ladies after school today while trying to cross a pelican crossing with the flassing lights.
The old lady didn't even care about pedistians all she cared about was where to go. I step forward as she had stopped but no she just carried on driving silly old bat! The car behind beeped her! I think an one over 60 should retake the test as it has changed alot since their time.

A lot of reasons. We're not in a hurry. We're not late because we plan ahead. We prefer, and can afford, the luxury of slow over the necessity of speed. Wherever we are going, maybe wherever you are going, we have already been there, maybe twice, and see no particular reason to get there fast. We don't have the mindset of a 14 year old with delusions of being a race car driver. Our ego and self esteem are not tied directly to the speed of the car. We realize that even 40-50 years of experience cannot compensate for the limitations in vision and reaction time that come with aging.

Maybe because we are not in such a hurry to get to the cemetery, most fatal accidents are of the younger generation who could not wait to get to the hereafter. However drive with me any-day and you will find I do not exactly hang about, while still managing to keep to the legal speed limits.PS. I have been driving 56 years and still have a completely clean license and full no claims discount on account of not having any accidents.

Many of us have health issues. but still feel ok and refuse to believe we are not safe, I am a retired instructor. Some of my worst rides were with seniors. Yes teens & punks that think they know it all do cause accidents, I drove for 50 years taught driving for 25 of those years. But a few years ago fell asleep at a stop sign , next day gave up my licence It was hard because the wife doesnt drive. We get by with a bus pass a few problems

Why do you young kids get killed more because of your stupidity on the road, cut people off because you're in such a hurry to get home 1.34 minutes earlier than if you quit showing your ignorance?
If you notice most highway speeds are 55. I run around 60 and have morons like you speed by me doing 80 and more! And when I get to the tunnel, who do I see in the right hand lane as I cruise through the tunnel at 40....BUTT HEADS LIKE YOU WHO WERE IN A HURRY! Go ahead, race me to the next RED LIGHT and then gripe about the price of gasoline! I get almost 60 mpg on my motorcycle running 60 mph on the interstate watching you nimrods endangering other lives with your stupidity! You go out bar hopping and get all drunked up then kill 2 women and 3 children because you were too drunk to notice you were driving down the interstate in the WRONG LANE!
Tell me, what do you do with those extra seconds you save by running your dumb a.s.s. at high speeds trying to get home? Yes...SECONDS! Time yourself sometime.....do the speed limit going home and then time yourself SPEEDING like you normally do. Tell me the difference. Oh, you can't do the math? FIGURES.
Now, go play with your GI Joe and Barbie dolls.

Allows for a better view of the countryside that we couldn't
see when we were caught up in the rat race. Also ensures
better control of the auto and time to see/avoid smackups.
Increases gas mileage and other than the traffic from the
rear (riding the bumper) makes it easier to get out of the
way of frustrated and angry young drivers.

What a lot of rude (young I guess) people have answered you, and I drive at the speed I have driven at since I was 17 (safely). I still have a clean licence, so I must be doing something right. Unlike you speed mad young idiots.
Remember the old saying --- Its better to be late than dead on time.

They don't. They drive carefully, sensibly, and within the speed limit unlike some, but not all, younger people. My husband has been driving for more than 50 years and has never had an accident or any points on his licence !

Because they come from an age when driving was regarded as a skill. Sure their reaction times may be slower, but they have the sense to realise this and drive within their capabilities.
