My step-mother was a terrible alcoholic, she was refused by many churches because of it. But you know what, as miserable as I was in her presence, when she died, I then knew her purpose in my life. Sometimes it takes people of that extreme for us to open our eyes. Do I think she went to hell, absolutely not. I would even go so far as to say she is more of a saint than I am, what have I shown someone of that magnitude. My dad came from a long line of terrible alcoholics as well. He stopped drinking because of her, I never picked up the habit (not to say I never drank), and the same with my sister. We were spared because of her, she broke the cycle. Even the worst person we can imagine might look "evil" in our eyes but dont they really teach us the extreme of what we dont want to be? Maybe they are the really the blessings in disguise.
