So my soon-to-be landlord and I made a verbal agreement Friday the 20th that I would accept the apartment he was renting and move in on the 10th of Aug. He calls me back Monday and says he'll need a $250 deposit to hold the apartment for me (so he can stop showing the apt. and in addition to the $500 deposit needed on the move in date). I obliged and made the payment. Now, due to unforseen circumstances I am unable to accept the apartment. My question is-- do I have the right to ask for the $250 back?

My arguement is this:
1) The last tenant moved out last night so technically the apartment won't be available to rent until next week (he's installing new carpet and painting). This is sufficient time to find a new tenant or call a prospect that has already applied.
2) The $250 pre-deposit was never discussed prior to the date he called
3) I haven't signed any papers yet so I'm legally not obligated to go with the apartment.

Thoughts, suggestions, legal advice??

They are constantly knocking on the door for stuff: sugar, eggs, butter, beer. We have told them no a couple of times but they dont seem to get the hint. We dont want to be rude either since we have to live next to them.

I once heard that the catholic version Bible didn'thave the 10 commandments like all the other Bibles as far as the second commandment which is "thou shall not worship idols or any craven images of wood, stone,etc..." but something about 'keeping celebrations blessed'. It would make sense since they pray to saints and Mary instead of directly to Jesus all the time, but I'm not here to make judgment, Only God can (and will) do that. I just want to know as faras refference-wise
(Altho I have a feeling this will inevitably spark controversy)
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers the question!
God bless!

I wrote this in my blog last night, and felt like asking if anyone else felt similarly here.

//How damaging a concept "heaven" can be. Not because of the opposing concept of a "hell", but in its own right. We see that terrorism is done in hopes of becoming a "martyr" and getting rewarded in Paradise. But I see damage done in the name of the Christian Heaven that I grew up on, too. I once read about a man whose wife didn't want him riding motorcycles, and his pastor persuaded him to stop by saying there would be motorcycles in heaven. I teared up and hoped for his sake the pastor was right.

Though I am Pagan and believe there's probably an afterworld of some kind, I don't know for sure. All of us can only guess. It breaks my heart to hear of people forsaking the things we know about for sure, the buffet of blessings given to us on Earth, for the gossamer hope of more and better in the Afterworld. (And if you don't have blessings, you can *make* them while you're here.)//

Would you want to be told right then and there or would you rather stumble across the object while looking in the mirror later (no telling how long that spinach has been stuck on the tooth, for example)?
