The weather in Taiwan_____a lot in the past few years because of the serious air problem year after year.

(A)has changed (B)changed

The answer is (A), but why can't I fill (B) in? Isn't the tense "in the past few years"?

Some told me that both the past tense and the perfective can be used to show the past time, yet the perfective is used in "a indefinite past time" and the past tense is used in "a definite past time point" like the two below:

I have written the letter several weeks ago.
I wrote the letter two weeks ago.

Is what my friend told me right? Please help with the two tenses I need help to deal with my exam but I'm a Eng. learner so just help me please.

The mother tells the children she cannot afford things they want because their father is not paying his child support. He finally got tired of it, requested a print out from child support enforcement and showed it to the children. He has never been behind.

For doing that, she filed a restraining order on him, along with request for supervised vistation, at $80 an hour. It was granted on the grounds that he had abused their mother by harming her relationship with the children.

Do you agree?

Note: He was turned down for a similar restraing order, and paying an attorney to try to file a motion to bar her was estimated to cost $15,000 and would have taken 2+ years to get a hearing.

Seriously, if you read something in the paper, does that make it infallibly how everyone who looks or acts like that person representative of each and every member of that group? Take that Christian mother who was found today. Her ex husband, a selfish little twit, killed her because he didn't want to have the responsibility for paying child support for another child, which he should have thought about before cheating on his current wife. Does that mean all Christian men will kill their pregnant wives or lovers since we keep hearing stories about it?

No, that sounds stupid you say? Don't you think it sounds just as stupid when you see some people from other countries doing stupid stuff and generalize the same stupid stuff about them? And why is it that when these things happen, religion is not mentioned, but if it's a muslim who did it, there religion is the first thing the media shouts? I really don't get it. Parents killing and nuking kids, should I generalize the same?

I love what is called "foodie" mysteries. These are mysteries that have a tie in with cooking or the food industry. Writers like Joanna Fluke and Diane Mott Davison are good examples of this genre. I'm looking for a new series to read. Recipes are a must!!

This has gone long enough. I seriously think that four grown people can not live under the same roof, esp when two of them has authority over the other two. This has got to end. I need to get out of the house now. Is it possible for sum one to move out on their own without being fully finanically ready? Whats the odds of being successful, i.e. paying all major bills on time.

I have noticed that a lot of people have questions about Harry Potter! I am pretty much a Harry Potter Expert! (not bragging cause a lot of people are)! So if anyone has any questions about the books, movies, or predictions about upcoming movies and the book, Just ask away. I will try to answer them. It's easier than taking away points by asking questions. Ha! Just ask the question and I will get you the answer. And I am making a list of questions that I want answered in the 7th book. I am going to post the list on my website for other fans to answer! So... Any Question/Predictions Will help! Thanks!

I really want to start using soft pastels, but I have no idea what brand I should get. I have recently just used "school grade" pastels, and I have produced pretty good stuff with them, but I just want to continue working on more art over the summer. I've been looking at Rembrandt pastels, and i'm wondering how those are. -Side note- I am also wondering if there is a subject that works better in soft pastels, rather than paints, or colored pencil. And what makes it suitable for each medium. Thanks

So. All my life I have been the ugly girl w/ pretty friends. So all the guys I have ever liked, Have liked my freinds. So I am 15 years old, never had a boyfreind.
So, I met this guy and he is 17... yupp two years older. And we had talked a lot. I was at house (he invited me over) and he kept putting his legs all over me and tickleing me and what I considered flirting. So I stayed for 2 and a half hours from 9:30PM to 12:00AM. Than I got home and about 12:30AM I got a call from him. We talked for a while and he said "But seriously, do you like me?" and replied "I don't know..." and he said "Thats not a serious answer" and I said "Yes it is... there is things I like about you and things I dislike about you" And than I asked him the same question and got the same answer. We talked about both those and he said I was easy to talk to... and beautiful and some other stuff. Then today he said I am to young. And asked me to hook him up w/ one of my freinds. Im so confused. Whats he thinking?

I read this when I was 12. It was about a little girl who lived in a foster home. For some reason, she goes to stay with her aunts and they're mean to her. Her uncle is the only one in her family who treats her nice. Later in the story, she discovers a dollhouse in one of her aunts rooms where the dolls are alive. She loves spending time with the dolls and at the end of the book her uncle passes away and she goes to the dollhouse to console herself and her uncle is one of the figurines. I can't remember the name of it and wanted to read it again.
