There would be more of an outrage, especially from colleges, who generally do not join the military anymore! And the parents of those who didn't volunteer take it a whole lot different.

" US Army Pushes For Amnesty Bill Fast Track So It Can Recruit Illegal

US Army wants to enlist illegal aliens quickly as recruitment falls

A senior US defense officials today urged the Congress to fast track a section of the stalled immigration bill that would allow the military to recruit illegal aliens, after recruitment figures released by Pentagon showed that the Army
failed to reach its targets for May.

The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors, or DREAM, provision in the immigration bill was expected to help boost military recruiting by allowing illegal aliens to enlist as way to obtain citizenship, Bill Carr, acting deputy undersecretary of defense for military personnel policy, told a veterans’ group representatives.

“In other words, if you had come across (the border) with your parents, yet you were a minor child and have been in the U.S. school system for a number of years, then you could be eligible to enlist,” he said. “And at the end of that
enlistment, then you would be eligible to become a citizen.”

Carr’s remarks came as Defense Department figures showed that the Army only recruited 5,101 active-duty soldiers in May, 399 short of its 5,500-soldier goal. The Army National Guard fell 12 percent short of its goal while the Air
National Guard numbers were 23 percent below the target.

Cobra, you are entitled to your opinion, but don't lump those who are dying in Iraq to being the same as those killed by drunk drivers. That is moronic! More kids are killed by their parents every year. Put that one in next time you pull that one!

The outrage during Vietnam days was fueled partly by the knowledge that one could be drafted and sent to Vietnam.

We also used napalm on villages in Vietnam, which presented a very compelling picture. We seem to be more careful to avoid killing as many non-combatants these days.

In Vietnam we supported several outright dictatorships before there was a government with a semblance of democracy (and few believed it was really democratic), whereas in Iraq international observers agreed that the elections were democratic.

An average day in Vietnam included the deaths of many more than 10 US soldiers.

With the 10,000 soldiers who marched on Al Qieda today, it was known that deaths would be up. The terrorists who fled Baghdad & ran North were attacked - we killed over 75, we captured a couple of hundred.. The rest ran but we will follow.
It is a war & thus we fight & sadly some die.
I am sad when anyone loses their loved one but outrage is when they do not understand the mission & danger - like the pregnant woman that was murdered by her husband here in the USA.

The outrage should be why the media covers Paris Hilton in jail more than American troops who are killed in battle who are only acknowledged in thirty 15' seconds between the weather and traffic segments of the news if they have time

In Vietnam, there were much higher casualties at times.

Truthfully, the population of sheep is too busy watching celebrity news to notice reality.

they were killed by a roadside bomb.........the outrage is why are you asking how come they were killed, different war different cause, different times..... there is outrage over this but there is also the desire not to fail, and leave in shame as we did in vn.........letting hundreds of thousands of VietNamese be slaughtered after we cut and run....

more people die everyday due to drunk drivers, cigarettes and gang violence.....now where is that outrage.....at least our soldiers are trying to help the people in Iraq.......

Outrage happens when there is a draft.

This is an all volunteer military, with an additional 12,000 enlisting in may.
