okay. i am trying to get down to about 9 minutes for my mile..and righ now, it's looking pretty dim. I have until august, and this is something important to me, i need tips on how to do the mile in a nice average time, nothing spectacular. i am willing to run as much as possible, but I have asthma which puts a damper on things..so can you give me some tips on how to work on it and not have a horrible summer. Do I need to be doing other excercises?? I already do about 100 sit ups per nite. I'm doing all this for myself. I don't play any sports, nor do I plan on it, but I want to set a goal and reach it..! please advice..??

P.s. I am not fat. but am out of shape..I want a 9 minute mile, which may seem soo long to you runners, but as I said I don't play sports, nor do I plan to, I just want this for myself.. I don't have access to a track... but I do have access to an almost flat road...?

I am a strong writer; i am going into AP english next year as a junior. Regarding the SATs, I always do incredibly well in the writing section, and slightly worse in the reading comprehension and math sections. I love writing yet I'm not into reading the classics, so i definitely do not see myself being an english teacher in the future. My mom would really like me to go into speech pathology, but I am not exactly sure what a job like that entails. I know I don't have to decide what I want to go into now, but I would like to start thinking about it. All ideas would be very helpful. College suggestions would also be useful.

Or is "divide and conquer" the better strategy?

I know this can be taken as being mean-spirited, but there is a larger issue here and I hope you're getting it. Can you find it within yourselves to answer in a loving way?

I notice that people don't always read the entire question before answering the question. The question heading could be the tip of the iceberg, and the details could really make a good point, and get you thinking in ways you never thought you could. And, it's not enough to just give a quick answer and collect your two points. If people just read the question, they would could possibly get ten points, if only they just typed "who is John Galt" at the end of their question. Our attention span must have really gone down through the centuries. Blame it on TV, Video Games, and "Your meal in thirty seconds or less or it's free" style drive-thru's. Whoever said, "Patience is a Virtue" would roll over in their grave if they saw the state of things today. Who agrees with me?

I have 3 Great Danes and a small problem. My living room is pretty open - no doors that separate it from the other rooms (2 doorways, about 5' across). I can't keep the dogs off the couch while i'm at work, so when i come home, there's slobber and fur all over! i love my dogs to death, but i've just about had it! I'm not going to crate them (i have a "what if there's a fire" fear). I'd like to keep them out of the room entirely, so i guess what i really need is some sort of "barrier" that will block them from the living room. does anyone have any ideas? I've looked at pet stores and they have baby-gate looking things but 1.) they're not wide enough to go from wall to wall and 2.) they're way too short (one of the danes can jump a 4 foot fence!). Please give me any and all creative ideas (and no, i'm not getting rid of them! haha).

Hi all, I have looked around a little bit for a solution to this, but I haven't really found the answer I am looking for. The other day, when I took the lid off my small Betta bowl (abt 1/2 gal) that sits on my desk at work, and poured the food in for the bettas, the male, a bit excited about the food, jumped up, overshot and landed out of the bowl and on my desk. I was able to immediately get him back in the water, but now, 3 days later, he is struggling to get to the bottom of the tiny tank, and gives up and floats back to the top. He occasionally rolls to his side as he floats on the top. I read that this could be a swim bladder rupture. Some people are saying a fish can "live through it and live on"... but I guess I am wondering if it is an incredibly painful, stressful life. I just changed his water and gave him a pea few minutes ago incase it isn't rupture, but would it be better for him if I just ended it for him now. Anyone who knows fish physio would be best! Thanks!
