God had Jesus crucified so God could give himself an excuse to forgive humanity its sins.
Jesus allowed himself to be crucified because he knew he was the Son of God and that God would raise him from the dead and take him to heaven where he would be praised for all of eternity.
So what, exactly, was sacrificed?
Jesus had no wife, no kids, no home or possessions, no money, no equals to call friends. He was only here to be crucified so God could give Himself an excuse to forgive humanity, which God could have done anytime He wished without Jesus being on a cross (after all, God can do anything He wants).
So what was Jesus losing that had any value whatsoever? Giving up his life to spend eternity with God would be like you giving up a quarter and getting a mansion in return.
Just because you value your life doesn't mean the Son of God thought being human was anything of value, and how often in his sermons did he say just that (Matthew 16:25)?
