could be many things, throw-out bearing, u-joints,transmission mount,loose gears,exsaulst pipes and or hangers loose, the sheild over the cat.converter will rattle too and sound like something at transmission doing it too.

Well, it could be a muffler hanger but if the rattle speeds up when you speed up, here are your choices.
1. U joints, either front or rear.
2. A rod knocking (which means you are about to blow your engine up, so check your oil).
3. Something in your wheels?
It probably isn't even in your transmission. They usually don't knock. They slip and you go nowhere. Check your u joints.

Check your exhaust system heat shields around the catalytic converter and anything that would make your engine vibrate excessively like a misfire (tuneup), excessive engine motor mount play, transmission mount play, etc.

a none mechanic guy left the flex plate loose.
or more simple than that, the exhaust system has something loose.
