You should not have to 'choose' a new connection. The computer should set one up for you automatically. Need a little more detail here.

Make sure that your computer is addressing the RJ45 port when it looks for a connection. To do this click Start/Control Panel/Internet options, in the Internet Properties window click the Connections tab. Now click the Setup button. In the Welcome to the New Connection Wizard - click Next. Click Connect to the Internet and then Next. Check Set up my connection manually - Next. Check Connect using a broadband connection that is always on - Next. Click Finish.
Hope this helps.

you really dont need to choose anything to connect to internet. it should be done automatically, unless you are trying to hook up your router. make sure you are connected with RJ45 aka ethernet cord from modem to the computer. if you are connecting with usb cord,, you need to iinstall a usb driver into your computer. after that make sure the modem is working. check the lights.
unplug the power cord on the back of the modem and shut down your computer. after 1 minute, plug the power cord back in and restart your computer. you should have connection. if not, call your cable company.

very easy. but need to check few settings.
In start menu, open settings, network & dialup connections. if you see a network connection then make sure it's enabled if not double click on it. then right click on it and select properties. where u will see various components, make sure internet protocol is present and checked, if so, single click on it and then click properties. which will open another box, make sure IP & DNS is set to AUTOMATIC.
Also check on internet explorer properties. open browser, go to tools, internet connections, then go to connection tab, make sure never dial a connection is selected, then click on lan settings, make sure automatically detect settings is checked. .. shut down pc.
NOW ... power off or unplug cable router and network router (if u have any) ... then turn on Cable router 1st, wait for a minute or two, then turn on network router and wait for a few .. now turn on pc ... it should work. if this doesnt help then scan hard disk and restart pc.

if you have a cable you should be connected unless there is problem with your cable modem
if you have cable internet connection...
1. check you Internet connection light it's behind your computer. cable runs from your computers to Cable modem. if light is stable...
2. look at signal light on your Cable modem (4 lights...3 green one yellow). if they are stable its if not time to call your Cable service company.
