Roommate killed in fight over radio
By Amanda Kramer
A Carrollton man stabbed his roommate to death Saturday in an argument over the volume of the radio, the sheriff’s office said.
Carroll County sheriff’s Capt. Shane Taylor said Juan Florez Martinez, 47, was arrested and charged with murder after his roommate was found stabbed in the chest
at a trailer on lot 6 in Bluebird Mobile Home Park on Lovvorn Road.
The victim was identified as Ramon Antonio Cabrera Bonilla, 30. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Taylor said. His body was found at the home by deputies at about 3:45 a.m.
The two roommates — along with a group of men and women at the house — began drinking alcohol about 9:30 p.m. Friday, authorities said, and continued drinking throughout the night.
At some point in the evening a few of the people left the house and went to a local club before they returned with more alcohol.
Taylor said by 3 a.m. Cabrera Bonilla and several others in the residence had gone to sleep — leaving only Martinez and another man still awake, drinking more alcohol.
Cabrera Bonilla, who had to work Sunday, awoke from his bed and went to turn down the radio that Martinez was listening to. Cabrera Bonilla complained the music was too loud for him to sleep, according to Taylor.
Taylor said Cabrera Bonilla awoke two more times to turn the radio down after Martinez kept turning the volume back up. That led to a fight between the two roommates over the volume.
During the altercation, Martinez stabbed Cabrera Bonilla multiple times in the chest, Taylor said.
