Copper and Aluminum are being considered for the cables in a high-voltage transmission line where each must carry a current of 50A. The resistance of each cable is to be .15ohms per kilometer.

A. If the line carries power from Niagra Falls to New York (500Km), mow much power is lost along the way in the cable?


Compute for each choice of cable material
B. the necessary cable diameter

C. mass per meter of cable

Please correct if you see anything that may be off
Solving for part a:
Power = I deltaV, since deltaV was not given IR=deltaV
so
Power = (I^2)R = 50^2 x 75 = 187.5 kW <-- answer
R= 75 since R= .15 ohms/ km x 500km

B) resistivity of copper = 1.7 x 10^-8 ohm m
resistivity of al = 2.82 x 10^-8 ohm m
R = (resistivity x length)/Area
what do i use for R? is it the 0.15 ohm/km or 75 ohm?

using the 75 ohm as R, I get that the radius of the copper wire is 0.0000361 m and the diameter is then 0.0000722.
Am i on the right track?

Hi,

I applied for my us passport back in feb 5th and it has been 10 weeks and i still haven't recieved my passport yet. I am traveling in 3 weeks. Anybody have any suggestions what i have to do to get my passport on time? Has any body missed a trip because of it. What are the steps i should take to have them expedite the process?

Silver sulfate has a Ksp of 1.20*10^-5.
If you add 25.0 mL of .015 M AgNO3 to150 mL of 2.8*10^-3 M Na2SO4, will you get a precipitate?

gosh well im making a rubarb upside down cake and i have made the cake bit and cut the ruhbarb so theres no going back!!!now im stuck on the caramel...it says 25og of sugar and 1/3 cup of water....cook until a pale caramel color...now iv cooked it twice and each time it has stayed whits though dissolved and eventually congeals back into crystalised sugar!!help please!!!!i dont have time to write the whole recipe out for you but are the proprtions of sugar and water wrong1!!what do i do?!?!
