I am a Christian, but I am extremely critical of my faith. I do not believe lightly and this is one of my major questions. Compare Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21. (If you're not already aware that the Jewish Temple was destroyed in AD 70 then do some research before attempting to answer here.) These prophecies outline the destruction of the Temple and then it goes on (Mt 24:29-30):
"But immediately after the tribulation of those days THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILL FALL from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. "And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory.
Then it says in 34:
"Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place."
See my dilemma? Jesus said he'd come back, but he didn't. Only real answers please.
