The theory that the first humans in the Americas by way of Asia is known as the Bering Straits Theory. However due to the "Clovis Man" being found in present-day Clovis, New Mexico (USA) many people are beginning to consider that Native Americans may have first arrived in central or south America by way of ocean. It would be pretty hard to prove this one way or the other.
As a firm believer in the theory of evolution, I think that all humans originated in Africa and by ways of migration made their way around the world and the most logically route to the Americas would seem to be up and across through Asia and over the land strait.
Also, I'd like to point out that there are physical similarities between Asians and Native Americans (I am actually Native American and quite often get mistaken for Asian).

I think via Asia would be the better answer.
Several theories exist referencing a variety of facts to support them. Often these theories discount other facts that may point in another direction.
It has been pretty well accepted that humans came after the dinosaurs, and the continents were already tranformed close to what they are presently. Although it is presently being disputed by various new findings, using new tools such as DNA, and reviewing old findings.
My opinion is that as the wooley mamouth migrated between Asia and north america so did mankind.
But as mentioned earlier class is still in.

Certain tribes of the Indian peoples fought intensely with the yellow race; as a result these certain tribes of the red race was forced to move northward, and eventually crossed the Bering straight.
This may answer why; but , not when.
Had not the Bering straight flooded, how long would it have been before the next race entered or followed behind? Perhaps the Chinese would have been next, instead of the Inuit from the other end.?
Anthropology is just beginning!

Yes, they traveled from Asia to America, (from Russia to Alaska), because at that time the two continents were united by an iced region, on which people could walk.

well, all humans originated in Africa and migrated from there. Some say that, when the bering strait still connected North America with Asia, that some of them migrated into the Americas in search of food.

The first humans came to the Americas from Oceania.
They were later assimilated by the Siberians and after Columbus, Europeans.

The most accepted theory is Homo Sapien, Man or his early ancestor, originated in Africa and migrated to populate the world. The problem is; as techniology, techiques and access to new areas increase so does the possibilities.
Just four days ago it was announced bones and teeth were found, indicating primates existed in Texas 42 million years ago. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070402/ap_on_sc/texas_primates;_ylt=Am8lraxTtaWKnIJZjtXRhxh7hMgF
There is proof of Asian DNA in North East American Natives and there's DNA Proof of Caucasians in Mongolia.
Class isn't over yet; but the favored answer to your question is yes. Weather it was by the land bridge or early navigation is still being argued.

No one knows yet; there are some theories now that the original Native Americans (at least some of them) may have genetic ties to central Europe. I'm sure that as the science of genetics progresses, we will learn more.
