Ever since George Orwell (pseudonym of Eric Blair) wrote the novel, 1984, the term "Orwellian" has been a term to describe "big brother" government as seen in a totalitarian society. Many, including me, believe his satired state has come to be realized (with so many people willing to believe anything our government says and also so many people willing to give up freedom and liberty for perceived safety, and our government's invasion of every realm of our privacy).
I was pondering this question: If George Orwell never wrote 1984, what word would be used to describe this state?
