which letter is the least used and which is the most used letter in the alphabet.?

i want to know these determined not by the number of words each appears in , but by the frequency of use in every day english.

The most-used is E, by a rather wide margin. T is next.

The least-used is Z, and Q is next.
(Out of 10,000 letters of text, there will be (on average) Z will appear 74 times and Q 95 times. But that's an average; some texts will be the other way around. Writings use Z a bit more in the US than in Great Britian, because of certain spelling differences: in the US they say 'realize', but in the Great Britian they say 'realise'.)

Want to check it out? Look up any long novel (say on Project Gutenberg, http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page) and copy the text into a word-processor. Be sure not to select one with a character named "Lizzy" or the like! Then use search an replace to count the Qs and the Zs.

For example, I did this with 'Sense and Sensibility' by Jane Austen. In it Z appears 69 times and Q appears 604 times, out of over 525,000 letters.

well for most used, i'd have to go with either "e" or maybe "s" or "a". though i'll have to go with 'e', because it would be very hard to go a day without saying anything that doesn't have the letter 'e' in it. you try, its tough.

for least used, it would probably be "x", because there are only a few words that contain x's. though "z" and "Q" aren't often used either in the english language.
