Constitutional Federalism

President Clinton is the first president in American history to deny that the Constitution limits the powers of the federal government. The Clinton White House has sought to federalize health care, crime fighting, environmental protection, and education. It has also tried to thwart any effort to downsize federal agencies and programs. Although the Washington press corps has dutifully scrutinized the fledgling efforts of the 104th Congress to breathe life into the Tenth Amendment of the Constitution, which affirms that the federal government has only limited powers, the president's efforts to expand federal power have received scant attention from a Tenth Amendment perspective. By his official conduct as president, Clinton has made it clear that he believes there is no area of human activity that is beyond the redistributive or regulatory reach of the federal government and that the state governments essentially operate at the sufferance of the national government. Such a view contravenes the text, history, and structure of our Constitution.

I want to split with my girlfriend of two years as this isn't working for me anymore (I'm 24 years). There's something in me that prevents from getting an interest in raising a family. When I was initially drawn to her, it just happened over what I felt was "mutual attraction". But, over a period of time, the novelty has worn off and the main issue, I want to avoid the huge expenses that come with starting a family of your own. To end my imbroglio, I took a lone vacation to Thailand this year-end and was more than happy with the enormous "flavor" that life has to offer when you're not in a relationship with somebody.

I've made up my mind to call the shots now, but I just wish to avoid the DRAMATIC consequences and the guilt pangs that could ensue after a split happens. I would like the thing to happen instantaneously so as to cause minimum grief to her - like I thought to put a Good-bye letter on her bedside, asking her never to contact me again. Is that a good idea?

Seriously, your life is slipping away by the second. Try doing something constructive with your life instead of trying to force other people to believe in your god.
Take up scrapbooking or learn a foreign language or something. Think about how much time (and money) you'll save by abandoning the superstitious mythology of your long dead ancestors.
I can't wait to see how many christians tell me I'm doing the work of the 'devil'.

My 02 Envoy's battery had a hard time starting this morning in this nice -14 degree weather. After a few cranks it started up. Just because it had a hard time turning over in this frigid weather, do i technically have a bad battery or is this weather just kicking it's butt? It will set me back $65 to put one in and really don't want to unless it's needed.

(CNN) -- Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff John Shalikashvili has had a change of heart about gays in the military.

Shalikashvili, who was the top military man when President Clinton's "don't ask, don't tell" policy became law in 1993, wrote in a recent New York Times editorial that he was convinced by gay service members that "don't tell" can disappear.

"I now believe that if gay men and lesbians served openly in the United States military, they would not undermine the efficacy of the armed forces," he wrote in the January 2 edition of the Times. "Our military has been stretched thin by our deployments in the Middle East, and we must welcome the service of any American who is willing and able to do the job." (Watch to learn more about the retired general's about-face )

The "don't ask" means commanders are prohibited from questioning a service member about sexual orientation while "don't tell" refers to the stipulation that gay and lesbian troops must keep their sexual orientation a secret.

President Clinton's policy brought the highly charged issue of gays in the military to the center of public discussion. At the time, Shalikashvili, supported the policy, believing that openly gay servicemen and women would hurt the military's cohesion.

With President Bush now calling for a larger military, the issue is sure to become fodder again for political and social debate. (Send us your thoughts on this issue)

Shalikashvili wrote that his position change came after meeting with gay troops, including "some with combat experience in Iraq, and an openly gay senior sailor who was serving effectively as a member of a nuclear submarine crew.

"These conversations showed me just how much the military has changed, and that gays and lesbians can be accepted by their peers."

'A political issue, not a military issue'
