I rented a room in a house and moved out of it recently. I paid $550 security deposit for month by month without a lease. Before I vacated my room, the landlord told me that she will mail me the refund if I can show her a copy of the check. I got the copy of the check from my bank and showed her. However, she said that she lost her valance above the window in the room which I lived in and will give me the refund after she finds her valance. There was not valance in that room when I moved in. But I did not take a picture of the room. In fact, a picture does not mean anything if she says that the picture is taken after I remove the valance. The valance is worthless to me. Why should I take it? I live in California. Do you think that I can win in the court without a lease? I just learned that the security deposit can be characterized as non-refundable if there is no lease. I will appreciate it very much if someone knows California Law and tell me what to do to win the case. Thanks!

Do celebrities simply ask more interesting questions than you and I ?

Or do they "juice" the system and get their "fans" to in effect spam or otherwise manipulate the Yahoo! Answers system of stars?

Or is it just that they are so popular, the lots of people are interested in whatever they say?

we worked so hard for our own expenses but at the end of the day, most of our earnings end up being borrowed. they always have some sad stories to tell. we couldnt bring ourselves to say no. and bad thing is, they take a loooooooong time to pay. and before they even pay up, they borrowed again. "they" are our siblings. thus we have to go around borrowing to cover our own expenses. both hubby and me doesnt earn much. today is our 1st anniversary. i am so sad cos we cant even celebrate, for obvious reasons.

My boyfriend is out of town for a 6mo. retreat & his truck is being stored at my mom's house while he is gone. She insisted on the truck being at her house cause she is the co-signer on the loan & doesn't want anyone to drive it. & It isn't being used or driven by anyone. Anyway..She still pays the monthly insurance fee. I told her to stop paying it since nobody drives the truck, but my dad says that it is required by law that the vehicle be insured. Doesn't matter if it isn't being used. He says that insurance company will notify Toyota & they will revoke the loan & take the truck. Can they do that? Is this true? Or is he full of it?

well i guess i have a problem...and i might even be taking it to serious...well i have a gf(which i'm crazy about..) and she claims that i am her first boyfriend...i believed her till she told me about this other guy that she had met a year or 2 before me and they had a lil "thing" going but it wasnt serious and they didnt consider themselves a couple...well the guy did something stupid or whatever and he decided he was bored of my current gf and went on and found someone else who was more suiting for him, me and him go to the same college...and i usually see him nd it makes me wanna just kick his ... everytime i see him i guess...and what my problem is that i always get this feeling that my current gf isnt over her "ex" and it always gives me a bad feeling inside when i think about it...any suggestions on what i should do? or am i just being paranoid?

I had refianced my mortgage with another lender, and did not receive their tax document until after i filed my income tax. To make matters worse, i noticed that my tax preparer did not include my new lenders mortgage interest which was $2,415.11. Should I look to ammend this situation? Do I have to file my mortgage tax? Help!
