Because younger are still growing up and showing a big change in short of time, but older has stopped growing, the different appearances have depended on how they have been taking care of themselves, so 5 year older could look 5 year younger than they are.
By the way, age is just a number!! To date someone, it's more on personality. If age doesn't make different personality that you'd prefer, you still talk the same conversation, and you like the way the other is, so it's no problem to date someone in much older or younger age.

Any age differences over 30 are usually common because both individuals share similar qualities in life. A 30yr dating a 20 year old would be challenging. The 30yr old already had more past relationships and experience and the 20 yr old might still have that curiousity to experience other relationships.

two diffent mindsets, two different situations. at young ages, its not a good thing because you are not mature enough for that kind of a relationship. i know that my kids will not date before they turn 15. to me it is bad. i dont want my daughter having sex to prove they like someone when that is not what needs to happen.
in an older relationship, it is better because there are no more teenage hormones involved and the two people are most likely looking to settle down. i am 7 years younger than my wife and everyone accepts it. the maturity level is a lot higher which makes it a better situation.
