My brother moved to Ohio not to long ago. he called last week saying that there was no way he could take the time off to come back home to Iowa. So we are going to surprise him by coming to see him for thanksgiving. He is living in Xenia. Two guys were picked up by the cops for smoking dope and appeared in court before the judge. The judge said, "You seem like nice young men, and I'd like to give you a second chance rather than jail time. I want you to go out this weekend and try to show others the evils of drug use and get them to give up drugs forever. I'll see you back in court Monday."

Monday, the two guys were in court, and the judge said to the first one, "How did you do over the weekend?"

"Well, your honor, I persuaded 17 people to give up drugs forever," he said.

"Seventeen people? That's wonderful. What did you tell them?" the judge said.

"I used a diagram, your honor. I drew two circles and told them this (the big circle) is your brain before drugs and this small circle) is your brain after drugs."

"That's admirable," said the judge. "And you, how did you do?" he asked the second guy.

"Well, your honor, I persuaded one hundred fifty six people to give up drugs forever," he said.

"That many people! How amazing! How did you manage to do that!" the judge asked.

"Well, I used the same two circles. I pointed to the small circle and told them, 'this is your anus before prison,'" he said.

I am planning on buying a Dell desktop soon. The computer I want is the Dell Dimension C521. The following are the stats:

AMD Sempron Processor 3400
512 MB DDR2 (memory)
80GB (hard drive)
NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE Graphics GPU
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio (sound card)

The #1 reason for the computer will be to type Word documents (I'm a writer) and Internet surfing (no porn!). But I was also considering playing DVDs on it. (I have no desire to burn CDs/DVDs or do stuff with photos or music. What I just mentioned is absolutely it: Word, Internet, and possibly DVD playing. Nothing more.)

What I want to know: is this enough power to play a DVD on? Will the picture be good? The computer can play DVDs, but I don't know how good the quality will be. I have my own real DVD player, but I thought, maybe I should use the computer to play DVDs just in case my housemates are hogging the tv--that way I can watch a movie on my computer in my room. Please help.

I am taking care of my niece while my sister is in rehab (Mommy School). : )
My niece is 6 years old, and she loves to read. I think she could benefit from seeing a story character in her situation because she doesn’t like to talk about her feelings. She has been through a lot for her six years and I am just looking for any resources to help her. (she is already in tharapy, and we play a lot of imagination games like makeing up stories, and drawing books to make up stories, ect.)

I'm sorry, I was just wondering. If you think about people individually, of course the answer is no.

But (and religious people I'm sure know what I'm getting at) - is that suicide beneficial to the "bigger" picture of how people deal with that tragedy and think about the afterlife?

I don't mean to advocate suicide, but they say everything happens for a reason.... I take that to mean there was a purpose for it to happen that way.

What do people think? Please, if you don't have something constructive to say, don't say it at all.

My ceiling in the bathroom started leaking a week ago. The superintendent came in and cut a hole in the ceiling. He called the plumber and they repaired the man's toilet above me, it had a small leak. Now, a week later, the pipe is still dripping into a container. I told the superintendent and he just looked at it for a minute and told me it was condensation--this was two days later, the condensation on the pipe had dried. I called the rental agengy and they are on the superintendent's side--both are shady. (The super had a girlfriend who is still missing, some people wonder if he had anything to do with it. He also let an elderly man go without heat for two weeks after October 15th which is against the law. There are more stories--tell you later.) The water which is dripping onto the back of my toilet is blue, which means it's probably old toilet water. I don't know what to do? Do you? I'm a little scared because this man could be a murderer--he has keys to my apartment!
