My husband's sister lives out of town. She is his only immediate family. We have been exchanging Xmas gifts for the kids. In the beginning, we didn't have kids--so it was a little easier. Now there are 7 kids, and it's getting hard to find presents--toys are repeating, clothes not needed, and older kids wants being more expensive. What happens is we end up asking what everyone wants/ needs/sizes/colors...etc. Then if it isn't right, it becomes a hassle because we are about a 1000 miles apart. This year I suggested giving the older kids gift cards and that they might like to go pick out something they wanted. My sister in law seems open to change, but said it was too much like swapping money. She suggested to set a dollar amount, buy and wrap presents, put our names on it. I know gift cards aren't personal, but I thought at least they could get cards from favorite stores. My new idea is to a $20 small Xmas gift idea and focus on making each kid's bday more special. Thoughts?

I know job applications will say they're equal opportunity employers, do not discriminate based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc..., and all that. But come on. Nothing is 100%. I bet some employers are somewhat lying when they say that. Right?

pay when crooks like Joyce Meyer Ministries own million dollar properties who's shadow's are cast on the nearby poor! Some churches preach about the poor but also own rental properties which are slums and they are quick to evict the poor!

Is it just me, or am I being left behind in the 'law suits' department. Every time someone falls over in a Supermarket (because they didn't see the grape on the floor), trips over a paving slab in the street (because they weren't looking where they were going), falls out of a tree (where they shouldn't've been anyway), gets their hand caught in a swing door (because they were trying to hold it open for the bit of totty following them) or sliding off the table (during a Bier Feste dance), the first thing people seem to be doing these days, is reaching for their phone and calling the nearest accident lawyer. However stupid the accident, the only thing that concerns people is how much money they can claim for being stupid and getting hurt in the first place. Even 'He hurt my feelings'. Personally, I think it's all very pathetic, even though I could have put a few 'stupid' claims in of my own on many an occassion.
Am I the only one who feels this way, or am I the stupid one?

"Money is a difficult issue with megachurch pastors", according to RACHEL ZOLL, AP Religion Writer Fri Nov 10, 2006.

As in any business, money of course is a prime issue.

Ms. Zoll points out how, in typical fashion for a number of mega businesses, Pastor Ted Haggard “started New Life in his
basement”, rose to the stars and did so by hustling the gullible. A tactic not unknown in the business world.

I point out the obvious that, like the leaders of Enron , Pastor Ted screwed his ‘stock holders’ ie., his congregation, by denigrating a supposed important attribute of what he preached, Moral Behavior. Never the less, he did sell them something else they craved, ENTERTAINMENT. Entertainment can be worth the price of admission and the business entertainment world strives to provide that.

If we look at New Hope megachurch as a purveyor of Sunday morning entertainment then Pastor Ted’s drug and sex behavior is
no different than what we too frequently see in the rest of the entertainment business world.

Pastor Ted technically should be able to have an image rehabilitated by church “spin artists” and the New Hope business
enterprise salvaged for what may well be what is sought by its entertainment seeking congregants.

A question though: Why, unlike Radio City Music Hall, does New Hope get to do its gig tax exempt?

I was shocked when I read about Gerald Levert's death in Yahoo's entertainment site. He died at his home in Cleveland on Friday November 10. Gerald was only 40 years old. He was a soulful crooner as well as a producer and songwriter. Gerald has made such beautiful ballads that touched women's hearts. He was definitely born to sing. Gerald leaves behind his father, Eddie Levert of the O'Jays, brothers Sean and Eddie Jr., mother, four children, family, friends, and millions of fans. He will be sorely missed. Gerald music and legacy will live on. Feel free to share your thoughts.
