While speaking against recent grass roots movements to fight illegal immigration Cesar Perales, President & Gen Counsel for the Puerto Rican Legal Defense & Education fund, was quoted as follows:
"It's basically saying those people (illegal immigrants) are illegal in their very nature; It is all right to be against them because they are lawbreakers"
Here's another from Domingo Garcia, National civil rights chairman of LULAC and former Texas State representative and Dallas City council member:
paraphrased " To refer to a hispanic as an illegal immigrant, regardless of status of documentation, is a racial slur just as insulting as calling a black man "the N word" (he didn't censor) "
It seems to me that these high profile illegal immigration supporters are trying to re-define our language. By definition an illegal immigrant is a lawbreaker. They have entered or stayed in our country in defiance of laws against their actions.
