The ACT is a test in 4 parts targeted to predict your performance in college. Just like the SAT, it is a test of meticulousness, decision-making, critical thinking, and stress management. The 4 parts are Math (through basic Trigonometry), Reading comprehension, English (grammar), and Science (ability to read charts, not knowledge of science!!!).
Some students do better on the ACT than on the SAT, and some worse. It is definitely a challenge, but if you know what to expect, it isn't difficult. My scores won't help you any, but 90% is 27, while 95% is 30. In other words, if you score 27, you are in the top 10% of test-takers.
Best piece of advice I have for you: attend a free "see how you score" seminar at your local Kaplan center, and check out which test is "nicer" to you, the ACT or the SAT.

All it is is another college admissions test. Preferred over the SAT if you're looking at schools in the Midwest. Get a prep book or go online to check out sample questions.
I thought it was very easy when I took it in December 2003. I put in a couple hours of math review the night before and that was all the studying I did. I have never left a testing situation feeling as smart as I did when I left the ACT! I ended up with a 31 composite (34 English and reading, 31 science, 27 math).
Good luck with it!

Compared to the SAT, the ACT is applying what you should know, instead of just seeing if you know it as the SAT does. I took both, and I did much better on the ACT than the SAT (32, and 1810, respectively). Both tests cover pretty much the same thing, though one might be more difficult than the other, depending on how you learn, and how well you learned it.
Have fun with the ACT, and good luck!
