America is riddled
With claims and disputes
Over which flag should fly
And which flag cannot
But this is a nation
Of freedom and cultures
So I ask for just one thing:
“Let freedom ring!”
Let lose emotions
Take flight our flags
Of red, white, and blue
And all other colors
For this is a nation
Of hundreds of cultures
And people of countries
From all over earth
But scare them, you should not
Let them be proud
Let them express
Their pride for their country
Both America and blank
Blank being where
They originate from
For there is no law
Against expression and pride
Who says I’m not American?
My papers say different
For I was born here
In the good USA
I fly my flag high
I fly it with glee
I’m on US soil
And I’m staying right here
This is my home
This is my life
I live for America
But still love my homeland
What’s that you say?
Repeat it once more
Go back to my country?
Go back to my home?
This is my home
This is my birthplace
So when you tell me to go back
I say, “Go back where?”
I started out here
Came out of Texas
So tell me again
Where to go back
I am American
With Mexican heritage
Call me what you like
Mexican or Hispanic
American-Mexican
Or Mexican-American
I really don’t care
So long as you know
Who I really am
Sergio Davila
American citizen
Two flags I’ll fly
Till the day that I day
