I'm a Japanese speaker.

PastPerfect and Past tense are still confusing to me.
I know Past Perfect shows 2events in the past.

My text books says
I had lived in Tokyo for 3 years. isnt correct.
I lived in Tokyo for 2yers. is correct.
He had worked for 30years untill he retired. is correct.

How about this?
She had been taking a bath when the phene suddenly rang.
I think it's not correct. The verb should be WAS.
'cause In this term, there is not interval of the time. It's just the
point of the time(when the phone rang)

She had been taking a bath until the phone suddenly rang.
I think it's correct. Because [untill the pone rang ] implies the interval of the time in the past. That's whey Past Perfect is appropriate for this term.

What do you think???

I know this is really trivial for the communication in English, but I'm reqired such a knowlege in the test.

How can the public know what effect that bush's economy is having on the US workforce when their data is slanted and incomplete?

Its only those who are actually receiving funding that are counted in those unemployment rates.

The Criteria that American workers have to meet to be allowed to file for unemployment is:
1. Employed for 6 quarters in the last two years to an employer (18 months).
2. Not worked in another state in the past 18 months.
3. Not filed for unemployment in another state in the last year.

Most unemployment funds will run out within six months and it requires the actually payment of funds to be counted on unemployment rates so those workers who are still unemployed when those fund are depleted will no longer be counted as unemployed even though they are not working.

Both the employer or government can contest the payment of unemployment and when a worker is unemployed they have have little money to fight unethical practices.

So we may never know!

Well, they couldn't be much wrong than that! This WC surely wasn't a time to make friends, but a time to make enemies.
Italy's fans vs France fans above all the others but also English fans vs Portugal fans etc.
Are we going back in time?
Cause I don't think there was such a hatred between fans before!
Or am I wrong?
We're making football look ugly, while we should make it a more beautiful game than it is.
I mean fans...Football is important for us, it's our passion, but it still remains just a game. It's beautiful for that. You may suffer but you can't die for a loss.
And moreover I think fans duty is to encourage their team, give them their support in bad times and good times,then you can loose or win, it's football, we can't all win. One day some fans cry, the other, other fans cry.
I cried about Italy in FIFA WC 1998 & Euro 2000, now French fans cried. It's inevitable.
If we love football, we know and accept that. If we can't then why do we even watch it?
