If so, what other denom was it, and what were you so displeased with it about that you would convert? What made you choose Catholicism instead of something else? Are you glad you converted? Do they provide more spiritual growth than other churches?

The current state of affairs on Mother Earth are abysmal. War, debt, disease, the list goes on. Not to mention the current energy dependence on non-renewables.

If we can somehow extend the "expiration date" of human kind instead, wouldn't that be better than sending people into space, and to possibly create bases on the moon or mars, at this juncture? Why not take care of home matters first?

Keep space exploration alive and well, yes. But with satellites and robotic craft.

There may be some benefit to having a human in space...but what cost justifies that benefit?

This question is motivated upon reading of the death of Van Allen, who advocated against manned space flight.

ok...so my wedding is just a little less then 2 years away, I've already had an angry mother over it (over funding this wedding, she was also mad that she doesn't know my fiance that well etc.--we had only been dating 2 months but we've known each other for a year)... ANYWHO--had bridesmaid drama 0--the one is getting really annoying suddenly and I don't know why b/c she never bugged me till now. and lastly the thing thats gotten me pretty upset was when i called my pastor to see if he'd marry me..he didn't seem too happy for me to be getting married.. or happy that I was asking. he informed me that I haven't been to church for a few years now and made me feel so small All of this has been taking a toll on me and bringing me down. ever since the words of me being engaged came out, NO ONE has seemed happy. except for a select few friends, his parents and extended fam, and my grandparents. what can i do to survive alll this, anyone go through similar stuff? just any help would be nice.

OK poor Barry, all indications are this is his last season, and yet at his current rate, he will not pass Hank Aaron as all time home run hitter until 2010!! But I wonder if he will be blackballed from Hall of Fame as was Maguire? Just curious.

I have this family member who has been very disrespectful,verbally abusive, arrogant, and "non-listening". They believe that their always right and anything anyone else says is wrong. Because I stepped back and kept silent for awhile now this person "feels hurt" and doesn't know what's wrong with me. I feel like this is the time for me to confront them...any advice on what I should say?

For a long time I've kept this quiet and I haven't said anything to anyone but it really is bothering me now.... We have a lot of friends that are well off, and whenever we have a party I notice that they are really cheap with us. Either they bring no gift or bring a very cheap (thoughtless) gift. Now it really irritates me because I am not like that with them. When friedns / friends have a party, I not only arrive with an expensive gift, which I try to really put a lot of thought into, but also something for the party (a dish or a bottle of wine, etc).
I am very generous with my gift-giving, I have given out large TVs, coats, fine jewelry, even boat cruises. And I don't see people coming even close to how much I spend on them! I am trying to "do unto others as I would like done to me" and I know it is the thought that counts but it is really upsetting me now.
Am I sending out a message that I do not see? Do people think I don't care about gifts? I can't expalin it..
