Having studied two other languages other than English, there are words and phrases that simply do not exist when translated from one language to another. For example, in the Spanish language there is the subjunctive form of the verb which can indirectly demonstrate the person's feeling or frame of mind when used which does not exist in English. Furthermore, the bible has been translated into dozens of different languages. Why didn't Christians learn whatever language the bible was originally written in in order to recite it similar to that which the Jews and Muslims do? I'm not saying that the Torah or Qu'ran is authentic but maybe a little less diluted than the bible. Please note that I am not asking about what your religious beliefs are but simply interested in why people belive that the bibe is gospel!

Korean (or Asian) Wedding Superstitions?

I was recently watching a Korean Drama. The young couple wanted to marry but most people were oppposed - particulary the man's grandmother. The woman becomes pregnant. Because of this, some of the family was urging Grandma to approve. She made a comment about a bride's veil and the baby being a boy. (The subtitlers did not translate the whole sentence). The other family said it was a superstition. Does anyone know what the superstition is?

My friend Tina and I were being questioned by one security guard for shoplifting. Need feedback.?

Serious answers only. While questioning us in the parking lot, she (the security guard) asked if we would agree to be temporarily cuffed (by her) while she continued talking with us. We both agreed and were subsequently cuffed. A few minutes later we confesed to the shoplifting. I was just wondering (the case is over so I am not looking to make excuses) if an unamred security guard can cuff if the suspect agrees - even though it is unclear if some one shoplifted yet. Thanks.
