What is the cost to park and ride and take the Metro from any of the outlying areas into DC? What are passes and parking costing, daily, weekly, monthly? Working a 9 - 5 job.

I'm thinking of taking a job in Gaithersburg, Md and am looking into the cost of living in the area. What's the average cost of a 2 bedroom apartment within decent commuting distance and the names of some good towns to live in. Needs to be somewhere relatively safe since the job involves a lot of travel. I 'd like to find somewhere with decent odds of my TV still being there I returned home each time.

We are hoping to leave our car in public parking area, then take public transportation to and from DC this weekend. We can drive anywhere from Frederick to connect to Public transportation, just don't want to bring a car into DC.
thank you

I've been thinking about travelling around the US, but basing myself in Washington DC. I will therefore have to find work and a place to stay. I'll research the visa issues myself (I'm a South African living in London).

I'd like your recommendations on the best ways to find work, what the job situation is like at the moment and places to stay that are quite safe and close to public transport since I dont have a car. Are flat/house shares as common as they are in London?

Also, what is the public transport system like there?

i am going to be living by the university of maryland and need to take the metro to visit family/boyfriend. Is the station by the university safe? Is it safe to travel alone and with a backpack? I need to walk to the station. I am a 21 y/o female.
I'd rather they not drive up to get me b/c there are crazy drivers in DC.

(sorry if this is a little muddled, it is late and I am tired)
