Not that I've ever heard of. They may be sympathetic, but they can't bnd the rules/ give discounts just for you. Sorry. I personally like American and Jetblue, but Southwest tends to be the cheapest.

Some airlines will offer a discount in case of death or severe illness of a relative. Info: http://www.airtimetable.com/airfares_emergency.htm#free

The bereavement (death) discount would be off of a full-fare, refundable, open return ticket, so would still be pretty expensive. Plus you'd have to provide a death certificate on your return flight to prove the person died before you took the first flight.

However, other emergencies don't qualify for discounts.

Southwest, after you fly their 68 dollar trips 10 times you get a free round trip. I'm sure other airlines have the same deal going on...look around on their web sites. Good luck and happy traveling!

Sometimes - lots of airlines have special prices for those circumstances but when I was in a similar situation I found the price they gave me was less than the one I found on my own using and entertainment book discount.

They give you death in the family discount. Most other emergencies would not qualify though. The airlines are total jerks.

If you have a death in the family some airlines do work with you. Try Alaska Airlines I know they helped my friend.

When my Mother passed away the funeral home offered me a bereavement package for me to get discounts on major airlines.

No they won't!
Four years ago my youngest brother died (30yo) all of a sudden (the dreaded 3AM call), I had to fly to Florida right away. They showed no empathy.
I got charged "Full" price, I had to fly the same day I bought the ticket!
I could normally get that same flight for around $400.00, I had to pay $1,200.00!
I payed it because I needed to get there ASAP.

Good Luck

Most all will if you state bereavement when you call them, the do try to make the flight easier and bring the price down for you.
