I'm thinking of taking a job in Gaithersburg, Md and am looking into the cost of living in the area. What's the average cost of a 2 bedroom apartment within decent commuting distance and the names of some good towns to live in. Needs to be somewhere relatively safe since the job involves a lot of travel. I 'd like to find somewhere with decent odds of my TV still being there I returned home each time.

You could try Frederick, MD. Its about 45 minutes from both Baltimore and DC (Airports in bothe cities). Its 20min north of Gaithersburg. Its a great town with a rich history. You can check out the classifieds in the Frederick News Post (Link below) Unfortunately, you'll be lucky to find something under $800 a month and the closer you get to DC the more expensive it will be.

In PA - try Gettysburg and Hanover

Very safe communities - very rural communities - 2 BR apartments can be had for $600 a month or less - depending on how the new the apartments are. Both towns are about an hour's drive from Gaithersburg.

I don't know where you come from but living in the DC area isn't cheap.
