I am traveling to Washington D.C with a 15 yr. old and 11yr. old. What is a good area to stay at that you can walk to a majority of the sites? I am willing to take the Metro to other areas, but would like a centrally located hotel so we can travel around by foot. Thanks for any help.

I'm going to work in Alexandria, looking for a place to rent in Alexandria or Arlington, what areas are considered bad? I know the area is expensive, so please don't tell me that it is expensive. I'm looking for the areas that have bad people, high crime, etc. that should be avoided, any info is appreciated.

I'm trying to find out how far each of Washington, DC's law schools are from the subway line (Metro). Can anyone tell me how far each of the six law schools are from the subway line and/or inform me of a method or a mapping web site that allows one to display simultaneously both the universities within a city as well as ground transportation options (ie- train bus lines and subway). I noticed that with Yahoo maps you can display either the universities within a city OR the transportation options, but you cannot display both of these options simultaneously. I'm trying to find a way to overlay the two together on one map.

The best answer award will be given to the person that goes the extra mile and is able to give me the data and the source I need.

I have looked at all the apartment websites, so now I need some "personal experience" advice!

Do any DC locals recommend a specific apartment in NW DC? I think I am most interested in Cleveland Park but would be interested in looking at anything in a short walk of the metro in that general area. I'm looking for a 1 BR, not more that 2K/mo, and must allow cats.

Also... Any places you recommend I avoid?

I'll be up there to shop around soon, so any advice to help me from wasting my time will be helpful!

We're planning to relocate there and know it is an hour by rail. We're okay with the commute. What are schools like in this area?
Is it very rural?

My husband and I are in the process of planning a mini-vacation to Washington D.C. in either late February or early March. We are planning for about 5 days/6nights and just wanted to know if anyone had any advice of must see attractions and/or hotels that are reasonably priced as well as somewhat close to points of interest. We want a decent hotel but it's really mostly just going to be a place to sleep. Any information, links, or personal experiences are much appreciated as this will be our first time visiting!
Serious answers only please, thanks in advance!

Hey everyone. My band is a local punk/hard rock band from New York City and we've built up a name for ourselves here and want to spread out. I was looking for names of some clubs in Washington DC that we could play at, can anyone give me a few places or at least one? Thank you.

My husband and I are going to be spending a few nights in DC while he's home on vacation from Iraq. Since he's only home for a short time, we want to stay somewhere nice, but not extremely overpriced. My main concern is to be in a good part of town.....
Any suggestions?

I will be staying at the HI Hostel 6 blocks from the White House, located at 1009 11th Street N.W. I plan on driving down Friday afternoon, and leaving Sunday afternoon. While I'm there, I won't need the car at all. What should I expect to pay to park for those 48 hours, and where are good spots near the hostel?
