I'm going to work in Alexandria, looking for a place to rent in Alexandria or Arlington, what areas are considered bad? I know the area is expensive, so please don't tell me that it is expensive. I'm looking for the areas that have bad people, high crime, etc. that should be avoided, any info is appreciated.

Gumm Springs is bad (right off Route One), and Del Ray is none too good either.

We live off the GW Parkway, near Belle View, and that area is nice.

Good luck!

If you're choosing between Arlington and Alexandria, I'd go with Arlington. It's safer in my opinion. If you want to be more specific, the Crystal City area is nice. Safe and you have access to good restaurants, clubs, and the metro.

ballston is a nice area to live in. just make sure you don't end up in are surrounded by mexicans, unless you don't mind having too many of them around. check out shirlington house apartment. rent is low. best place. quiet yet close to VA 7 and I 395, 500' walk to shirlington town center.
