I have looked at all the apartment websites, so now I need some "personal experience" advice!

Do any DC locals recommend a specific apartment in NW DC? I think I am most interested in Cleveland Park but would be interested in looking at anything in a short walk of the metro in that general area. I'm looking for a 1 BR, not more that 2K/mo, and must allow cats.

Also... Any places you recommend I avoid?

I'll be up there to shop around soon, so any advice to help me from wasting my time will be helpful!

Cleveland Park is nice, but kind of isolated from the more popular areas of the city. Try Adams Morgan or DUpont Circle, especially for safety.

Try the Chesapeake Apts on Connecticut Avenue in Washington DC. A 1 BR is around $1600 and they do allow a cat or two. It is in a nice area within walking distance of Metro and has shopping, movies, and restaurants nearby.

Avoid the obvious like anything in SE.

Check the McLean Gardens complex on Wisconsin and roughly Idaho Avenue. It's a little further north than Cleveland Park but it's about a 7-minute walk to the Tenleytown metro, nice complex and they take pets.
