What will be the dominant form of transportation in 20 years and are there any plans to close any streets to cars? Also what will happen to the suburbs, freeways, and single-family neighborhoods?

Hello all!
I currently reside in greater Boston but want to move to LA to pursue a career in the film business. I plan on screenwriting, and at the same time holding down a mindless job that pays the bills while I get my foot in some doors in Hollywood.

Here a few of my questions (in list format):

1) Do I need a car in Los Angeles, or is getting around in public transportation good enough?

2) If I do need a car, would it be better to buy one where I live now or to buy one in LA? I'm not sure of the insurance and tax stuff in NH compared to LA.

3) I am looking to live in a nice, low-crime area by renting an apartment. I can afford up to $900 a month. Do you recommend any particular areas of LA that might fit my budget?

4) Do any of you have further tips on finding good apartments in LA, besides using apartments.com or Craiglist?

Well, that's about it :)
Any help from you all will be much appreciated.
I look forward to all your answers, thanks.

What are the towns in Los Angeles that are still relatively cheap to rent at (renting for less that a thousand a month for a studio)? What are the most dangerous parts of L.A.? Thank you.

I know Los Angeles is considered to be the film capital of the U.S. but NYC also has a lot of film. However, there are more prominent in theater and some TV. Thus, bringing me to the question, which place would it be "easier" to get an agent for screenwriting? Furthermore, aside from schools such as NYU, USC, UCLA, is there any schools in the LA or NY area that would be beneficial to go to and that are still a lot cheaper than those other schools? NYFA in either LA or NY perhaps? What internships can you take that will help in screenwriting? Thank you.

Is it possible to live in Los Angeles without a car? I'm aware there are buses but is it as accessible as the transportation system in New York? Where is the best area to live if you want to try the "Hollywood" thing like everyone else? What is the safest area with the closest proximity to the studios while at the same time relatively cheap? ($650-$800 a month for a studio apartment.)

Our family of three adults is planning a bicycle tour (of adventure and utility) from our son's home at Ventura Blvd. and Coldwater Canyon to Phoenix, Arizona. We will be departing on Sunday morning Christmas Eve day so we think traffic will be lower. We are unsure how to best navigate ourselves through the city as well as what best route to take once out of the city as we cross California and into Arizona. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
