Sue is right, the Burbank Media Center Mall is a cool place to shop, hang around, or catch a movie.

Burbank is 10 miles from downtown LA, and evencloser to Universal Studios and Hollywood. If you have a car, then it's an easy drive. If not, then go to www.mta.net to see which buses you will need to take to get there.

The closest beach, Santa Monica, is about 20 miles. Once again, a car is very beneficial in such cases.

Interested in seeing a TV show? Try going to audiencesunlimited.com or tvtix.com and see if there's a show being taped that is interesting to you. There are a lot of movie/TV studios in and around Burbank.

Have fun!

Burbank is more or less in LA - it's just been annexed as it's own town (so it has it's own transportation system and city govt). You're really close to Universal City and Hollywood. If you're comfortable getting around alone, see if you can get a ride to the North Hollywood metro station which goes to Universal Studios, and Hollywood (at Hollywood and Highland, so the walk of stars, Kodak Theatre, Grundman's Theatre - I wouldn't venture much further than that).

However, you're probably safest staying in Burbank. There's a TON of shopping and really cute shops in the downtown Burbank area (as well as a movie theatre and restaurants). I wouldn't try getting to the beach - I know some tourists who tried to get to the beach with public transit and they said it took them all day to get there and back. You're better off going with your friends when they're available.
