I work retail and we haven't heard yet if Massachusetts is officially planning the "Tax Holiday" (aka HELL for us retailers) for August 11 and 12... Any news?

I’m going to Boston in a few weeks and would like to know any strange or untypical sites to take in while I’m there.
I enjoy seeing / touring the underbelly of cities & towns I visit.
Thanks for any ideas.

We get into Boston at 12 (on a Saturday), which means we won't get out of the airport until 1. We're planning on spending the rest of the day at one of these two, which on would you recommend?

I really like touristy stuff, but I'm worried from what I read that Salem will be really tourist-trap like, more than historical like we might've pictured it.

Howdy. I'm from AZ and the farthest East I've ever been is Detroit, and that was a layover at the airport. I start my new job in a couple of weeks and will have free flight benefits and want to travel somewhere back East that's not a metropolis.

I've been thinking about Burlington, Vermont. Does anyone know of some neat places to check out while I'm there in terms of scenery or history or cool restaurants or anything? I'm hoping to go maybe in the middle of September...

(I'm posting this in the Boston board because it's the closest city to)

I have been to Martha's Vineyard and was not impressed but maybe if I go to Oaks Bluff this time that would be better.

We are driving from Boston to Portsmouth,NH. We want to take as much of the coast up as possible and stop at a beach or two along the way. Any suggestions for best beaches around Gloucester. (Any with a good collection of seashells would be great) Or other ideas? Trip is within the next 2 weeks and traveling with 6&4 year old.

This weekend is supposed to be a huge debate at the High School in Middleboro over a proposed casino. What is your opinion having one in Massachusetts, or in Middleboro for that matter?

As the title suggests, my wife and I are newly married. I am relocating to Boston in a month or so from Charleston, SC. I will be working close to the Courthouse (near South Station).

From what I can make out word of mouth is the best way to find a place in Boston. I have only been to Boston once for the interview so really need some help and advice from you experts in here.

Which areas are most suitable for someone like me and my wife? Don't really care about schools ... Care most about Access to downtown Boston, the safety of the area, and, the cost of living. I am hoping to keep the rent of the apartment ~1300/mo.

Given that my wife and I are recent grads... we don't mind living in a student area as long as the apartments are in decent/good condition. Don't mind living in a suburb that has good access to DT Boston either as I have a car and don't mind getting dropped off at the nearest station.

I am looking to rent an apartment (1br/1bath ... upgrade to 2br if possible). I don't

I'd like to hear from people who live there or in the area. How much money do you have to earn to be able to afford rent, insurance, gas, groceries, etc. and still have some money to put into savings. I know apartment rentals run anywhere from $1500-$2000 a month but Im not so sure about other expenses.

I am going on holiday to Boston for 5 days and then spending 2 and a bit weeks touring around New England. I don't have a definite route yet and am using travel guides to help me.

I was just wondering if anyone who lives there or visited there can suggest some must see places or things to do. Some off the beaten track stuff would be great; I don't really just want to see the tourist side of the place. I am going out in mid September and staying for about 3 weeks.

Thanks!
