Depends on where in Mass you are starting from and where in Jersey you are going.

Many maps have a 'time' map between major points (like between Boston & Providence, etc).

From SE Mass to NYC takes about 5 hours. And from there it's just over the river to Jersey. If your goal is the greater NYC area (Newark perhaps down to Ashbury Park) I'd say 5-6 depending on traffic. If you are going farther (like Six Flags or Atlantic City) I'd say a few hours more.

One traffic free Sunday morning, I made it to Boston in 3 hours from the Vince Lombardi Service Area on the New Jersey Turnpike - averaging 77 MPH and going over the GW Bridge and I-95 in NYC. This was back in 1992.

If this is a serious question, I answered a similar question in the Commuting forum and 90% of the voters basically said to name the start and end points.

Depends on where in MA and where in NJ you are going to and from. To drive the length of NJ is at least 3 hours so it depends on whether you're going to north or south Jersey so it really depends on where exactly you're going. That's assuming you're driving too, it will be different if you're flying, driving, taking a bus, taking a train, biking, walking, sailing, swimming, etc....So if you fly from Boston to Newark it's a little less than an hour but if you walk, it could take a couple weeks.

So that's a long way of saying that your question is too broad to answer.

I do that frequently and the usual from the Boston area to the Camden/Philly area it is about 5.5 hours. Add another 1.5 hours usually for Atlantic City. If you go to north/central Jersey (Paramus or Patterson) it is more like 3.5.

Of course in rush hour all bets are off. One truck problem on the Pike and anything toward the south is automatically hours longer.

From Hampton, NH (north of Boston) to Cape May, NJ(furthest tip of NJ) took just over 8 hours including a stop for dinner north of Hartford.

Hampton, NH to Manhattan takes just over 3 hours.

Take 90 to 84 to Ct15 (a.k.a. Merritt Parkway) then I87 south to 95/George Washington Bridge. Do not go on I95(Cross Bronx Expressway) in NYC.

Well what exact starting and end point are you using? And when will you be traveling? If you are in rush hour in Boston, Hartford or NYC that'll ruin a nice trip right there! Average is around 5 to 6 hours, but can be done faster, or of course slower. . . .Try MapQuest with exact addresses, or at least cities.

I've driven from Boston area to Edison NJ in about 5.5 hours, and I'm not what I would call a speed demon. But I also managed to miss rush hour traffic in NY area, then again in Hartford CT.
