Also, what are some of the language differences....meaning, I know some words like "fanny" don't mean the same thing in England that they do here in America. Don't want to say something and embarrass myself! lol, thanks for the answers!

When I tried to track my ancestry, I found that one of my GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT... (actually, I'm not so sure how many great there are) grandfather was from GREAT Britain. That's why now I'm kinda curious about it. My ancestor there was also a scientist... an alchemist or kind of that.

If I had the chance, I want to visit my distand homeland. I want to meet the true English Gentleman image there... where could I see that and experience it myself?

Although a generalization, it's an observation. From some points of view given on Yahoo!Answers. Do they teach about the US Civil Rights movement and martin luther king jr. in the UK?

Hi.

I'd like to go to the west country. I'm debating if I should take the train there (London <---> Exeter return 50 GBP) or hire a car to drive there.
I'll need to hire a car there anyway. But I wonder if I should hire a car
in London and drive there and back and pay the petro, or take the train there and hire the car locally. I plan to get a cheap economy car (the most fuel efficient car)

Which way is cheaper?
Thanks.

I have a southern accent and for the most part love it, but sometimes it can be a pain. Some people (the ones who stereotype) view a person that has a southern accent as ignorant before the person even has a chance to say anything but "hi there".....so, what do the British (English more specific) feel about this? I may be living in England for a year to study and was just curious about it. Thanks for the answers!

I know it's not perfect, but nowhere is. I complained too until I spent many years living outside the UK, mostly in developing countries, and (trite as this sounds) learned to appreciate all that we have.

My question is - Just what do you think is so bad about living in the UK?

In the July 2006 issue of Vogue magazine, there is a story write-up about the successful opening of the British Fashion Exhibition held at New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art.
There, you will see photos of great fashion maverick Vivienne Westwood, fashion designer celebrity Diane Von Furstenburg, a young lady socialite, etc. wearing fashionable clothes fashioned from the British's Union Jack!
The Flag of the United Kingdom!
Does the United Kingdom Government permit the usage of what looks like their National Flag as a garment to wear?
