Last time I checked, that was part of Scotland, not Britain...

Scotland is part of the United Kingdom, don't think it is part of "Britain".

Perhaps Britain is the backwards part if they think the rest of the U.K. is part of themselves...

My book "Life in the United Kingdom" says that Scotland is part of Britain. Great Britain consists of Wales, Scotland, England and Northern Ireland. Britain consists of the mainland. So you're right.
But I don't know what you mean by "backward".

Northern Ireland is British and the southern and western part are the Republic of Ireland. We are planning on going to Ireland next May for our 10 year anniversary. I'm pretty excited as I've heard that the Irish people are what makes Ireland so special. So with that in mind, we are going to be staying at B&B's instead of hotels. We'll be going on a big circle and will be visiting both the Republic and N. Ireland. :D
