I will be studying in London for a full year, and I'm unsure if I will need a cell phone while in the UK. I know that I use my cell a LOT here in US, but will I need one over there, or can people live without one? I'll be keeping in touch with everyone in the US through Skype and other internet things, so I would just need a phone for local calls. Any suggestions?

upon their arrival in England?
I am an American. I hold an American passport. I shouldn've have to fill out anything.
Anyone who holds an American passport - Indian, Chinese, French, Spanish - should be an exception to this rule.
Why do we have to fill out your useless card?

We, alongside the French and Spanish, fought against the Brits and drove them out of our country in the War of Independence.
Yet they still take credit for our country's achievements. Why are they doing that?

i'll be up in Edinburgh this week, staying at a hotel near the Cowgate. Does anyone know of anywhere nearby (within a 20minute walk) like a residential area, where it is free and SAFE to leave my car overnight?

not centreparks or anything too hectic, something for a couple of days, fairly natural surroundings, fun for them but chill out for us!

I'm coming up to Edinburgh for my 30th birthday and with being a mature student don't have a big budget! Could anyone suggest a cheap b&b or decent clubs to go to? Or even any good useful websites? Thanks in advance. =)

The vice-versa, however, is not true.
The accent and the terrible teeth ruins it all.
Given the fact that we don't like them, why do they like us?

I am in the US and considering moving after I finish college next spring. I've read that the national minimum wage is much higher in the UK than it is here in the States and that health care is (usually) free. Are there any disadvantages to living there, and how well or poorly are Americans received?

Anyone can answer this question, but I'm particularly interested in hearing from British people and from Americans who live or have lived in the UK.

We will be renting a car and arriving in Edinburgh and travelling through Northern England and leaving from Manchester. Do we need something other than a US driver's license, and if so, how do we obtain it?
